Do People Really Care About Petrol Prices?
May 26, 2008
We went in the car for a drive that covered 70 miles and we took the motorway for most of this time. Of course, the speed limit on th emotorway is 70mph which is about what we were doing. However despite that we were the slowest thing on the road.
People were zooming past us in all sorts of different cars at speeds of excess of 90mph. So much for peeople caring about the petrol prices! Surely they aren’t so stupid not to realize that driving at these sorts of speeds vastly increases fuel consumption?
If you go at more than 65mph fuel efficiency really takes a knocking. I was watching a TV show about this topic and one guy was able to save 30% on fuel just be driving in a more relaxed style. Instead of putting your foot hard on the gas and then hard on the brakes, you should allow the car to gently accelerate and decellerate.
I like to think that I am able to get quite good fuel efficiency out of my car because I try not speed up or slow down too quickly. I drive an automatic so tend to just take my food off the gas and allow the car to slow down on its own.
Hello world!
